Network & Systems Administrator

General Summary:

The Network & Systems Administrator will be focused on providing day-to-day network operations support, software/hardware installation, problem resolution and proactive network monitoring. This role will be responsible for the seamless operations of all network hardware, software, peripherals and infrastructure required to support optimized network communications. The Network Administrator role should also be passionate about the evolution of data communications and transport between company systems to help drive future advancements.

Compensation: Salary based on experience plus discretionary bonus
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and manage on premise and cloud based Windows and Linux Servers, and LAN/WAN infrastructure including switches (VLANs), routers, firewalls, VPNs, storage and VOIP system
  • Respond to system notifications and remediate monitoring system alerts and network performance issues
  • Author, document and maintain all network documentation
  • Investigate performance anomalies and perform root cause analysis for network and communication issues
  • Help define network and server management best practices, policies and procedures
  • Provide 24x7 technical support via on-call duties, as required
  • Occasional travel to remote sites and client facilities
  • Provide level 2 support to level one techs
  • Create and update service tickets
  • Perform proactive maintenance (after hours) on servers and infrastructure
  • Perform system upgrades and deploy new hardware
  • Evaluate new networking technology advancements, standards, and methodologies to assist with the support of future customer needs

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Improve customer service, perception, and satisfaction
  • Ability to work in a team and communicate effectively
  • Escalate service or project issues that cannot be completed within agreed service levels
  • Business awareness: specific knowledge of the customer and how IT relates to their business strategy and goals
  • Develop in-depth knowledge of the service catalog and how it relates to customer’s needs
  • Document internal processes and procedures related to duties and responsibilities
  • Responsible for entering time and expenses in Autotask as it occurs
  • Understand processes in Autotask by completing assigned training materials and blueprints on the Autotask University
  • Work through project tickets and phases in Autotask as assigned
  • Enter all work as service or project tickets into Autotask
  • Create knowledgebase articles in Autotask
  • Utilize RMM (Remote Monitoring and Management) tools to maximize automation of repeated tasks
  • Review IT publications and online materials to remain up-to-date with current and future technologies emerging in the industry

  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt to a fast paced growing and evolving service delivery system
  • 2+ years of experience in managing LAN/WAN network infrastructures, including Windows Servers, network switches, routers and firewalls including performance tuning and troubleshooting
  • 1+ years managing virtual server environment (VMWare preferred) and storage
  • Strong Active directory, DHCP and DNS knowledge and experience
  • At least one Professional IT Certification, such as: Microsoft MCP, MCSA, or MCSE, Cisco CCNA, VMWare VTSP or VMware VCP
  • Interpersonal skills: such as telephony skills, communication skills, active listening and customer-care
  • Must have in-depth knowledge of LAN/WAN infrastructure and routing, and experience using networking protocols such as EIGRP/BGP/OSPF/STP/PIM/VLAN
  • Experience with vendor communications equipment and circuits (DS1, PRI, MPLS, MOE, PTP)
  • Knowledge and experience working with VoIP, H.323, SIP and video communications
  • Diagnostic skills of technical issues
  • Ability to provide status updates orally and in writing
  • Ability to multi-task and adapt to changes quickly
  • Technical awareness: ability to match resources to technical issues appropriately
  • Service awareness of all organization’s key IT services for which support is being provided
  • Understanding of support tools, techniques, and how technology is used to provide IT services
  • Typing skills to ensure quick and accurate entry of service request details
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work in a fast moving environment
