Apple iOS Text Bomb Crashes Devices

A newly developed bug that comes in a text can crash your Apple device. This text bomb is being used to freeze up devices if you receive a specific viral app notification with a text string that includes characters from Sindhi. Sindhi is a language spoken in Pakistan.

Apple device users are being advised to disable notification on their iPhones and iPads to block the text bomb flaw that cause the iOS freeze up.

The issue is affecting devices using the latest iOS version, but a fix will be part of the iOS 13.4.5, coming in the next few weeks.

Microsoft Windows 10 Update

Microsoft has decided to delay the scheduled end of service date for the Enterprise, Education, and IoT Enterprise editions of Windows 10, version 1709, due to the current public health situation and the impact it is having on everyone around the globe.

What does this mean?

This means devices will receive monthly security updates only from May to October. The final security update for these editions of Windows 10, version 1709 will be released on October 13, 2020 instead of April 14, 2020.

Security updates for Windows 10, version 1709 will be available via Microsoft’s regular servicing channels: Windows Update, Windows Server Update Services, and the Microsoft Update Catalog. You will not need to alter your current update management workflows. For example, all supported versions of Microsoft Configuration Manager (current branch) will continue to support Windows 10, version 1709 until October 13, 2020.

If you haven't yet done so, we encourage IT teams to consider shifting to Windows Update for Business (see below), which allows users to take both feature updates and quality updates directly from Microsoft in a secure and often faster manner. You can also reach out to or your account manager for steps you can take to keep your Windows 10 devices up to date or upgrades.

Deploy updates using Windows Update for Business

What Does This Apply To?

  • Windows 10
  • Windows Server 2016
  • Windows Server 2019

Windows Update for Business is a free service that is available for Windows Pro, Enterprise, Pro for Workstation, and Education editions.

Windows Update for Business enables IT administrators to keep the Windows 10 devices in their organization always up to date with the latest security defenses and Windows features by directly connecting these systems to Windows Update service. You can use Group Policy or MDM solutions such as Microsoft Intune to configure the Windows Update for Business settings that control how and when Windows 10 devices are updated.

Specifically, Windows Update for Business allows for control over update offering and experience to allow for reliability and performance testing on a subset of systems before rolling out updates across the organization as well as a positive update experience for those within your organization.

The vulnerability affects devices running the Windows 10 operating system, as well as the Windows Server 2016 and 2019 operating systems. Using the flaw, attackers could create an exploit that creates fake security certificates, giving them complete access to run malicious software on Windows devices while looking legitimate to the system. "The user would have no way of knowing the file was malicious because the digital signature would appear to be from a trusted provider," Microsoft said in its description of the vulnerability.

Take Action:

Microsoft issued a patch Tuesday (1/14/2020) for the vulnerability. If your devices are not set to auto-update your Windows operating systems, then we strongly recommend you update your Microsoft systems immediately to avoid this exploit. Let Kobargo know if you need assistance patching your systems, or if you would like to set up automatic updates.

Surprise, Arizona, November 21, 2019 –  Kobargo Technology Partners has partnered with Duo Security, to ensure their customers get a higher level of security when accessing their data with Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) and Single Sign-On (SSO) solutions.

Because traditional authentication processes are unreliable and provide poor user experiences, Kobargo recommends Duo’s two-factor authentication with single sign-on to ensure their customers gain peace of mind by protecting what is important through a multi-factor authentication solution. When clients are in need of a solution to securely log in to each application several times a day, Kobargo will implement these access solutions without impacting performance or the bottom line.

Kobargo partners with major technology providers to easily extend security controls. As a secure, cloud-based solution, Duo’s multi-factor authentication requires no on-premise hardware to be deployed. 2FA protects against phishing, social engineering, and password brute-force attacks and secures their customers’ logins from attackers exploiting weak or stolen credentials.

Duo Security delivers simple, secure access to all applications – for any user, from any device, from anywhere. Two-factor authentication strengthens access security by requiring two methods (also referred to as factors) to verify a user’s identity. These factors can include something they know - like a username and password, plus something they have - like a smartphone app to approve authentication requests.

“By giving our users the power and confidence in safely accessing sensitive data with Duo Security, our customers gain peace of mind by protecting what is important through a multi-factor authentication process,” Yuval Goren, President, and CEO of Kobargo said. “As a customer’s IT service provider, it’s imperative to deliver solutions that protect data, brands, and reputations.”
